OUR LEVEL GUIDE
1 cycle = 1 x 4-week course
Foundation Level 1 – Complete Beginners (Recommended: 2 cycles)
This level is for absolute beginners starting from zero. No prior dance experience is needed.
Students will learn the basic steps, rhythm, posture, and simple partnerwork needed to feel comfortable on the dance floor. The focus is on understanding the fundamentals, building confidence, and getting used to moving with a partner in a fun and supportive environment.
Foundation Level 2 – Building Flow & Connection (Recommended: 3 cycles)
Designed for dancers who already know the basics, this level focuses on refining technique and deepening partner connection.
Students will work on flow, smoothness, communication, and clearer lead-and-follow skills. The goal is to feel more relaxed, connected, and natural in the dance while improving control and musical awareness.
Novice Level 1 – Creating the Dance (Recommended: 4 - 8 cycles)
At this level, dancers have a solid grasp of the fundamentals and are ready to expand.
The focus shifts to flow, momentum, and creativity, with the introduction of more complex patterns and combinations. Students learn how to link movements together, adapt to different partners, and start truly creating the dance rather than just following steps.
Novice Level 2 – Confident Social Dancer (Recommended: Keep at this level until a new level opens up)
This is our highest level.
Dancers at this stage focus on both individual movement and partnerwork, developing stronger body awareness, musical interpretation, and expression. Students work on solo movement, styling, and advanced partner concepts, integrating everything into a confident, fluid social dance. At this level, dancers are fully comfortable on the social floor and ready to adapt, express, and enjoy dancing with ease.

La Diosa, meaning “The Goddess” in Spanish, is a vibrant Afro-Latin dance community based in Cape Town, founded by Candice Sender.
We teach Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba to dancers of all levels, from complete beginners to confident social dancers. Our teaching focuses on the principles of dance – connection, technique, musicality, and communication – so you understand the how and why, not just the steps.
Rather than memorising choreography, students learn to create their own dance; move with confidence; and truly connect with their partners and the music.
At La Diosa, dance is about expression, connection, and joy—a place where dancers grow, belong, and feel at home.
WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS
When attending a Salsa, Bachata, or Kizomba dance class, it's important to come prepared.
Here's a list of items you may need to bring along:
-
Comfortable dance shoes: Choose shoes that are specifically designed for Latin dance styles, with suede or leather soles that allow for easy movement and spins. Avoid rubber-soled shoes, as they may stick to the dance floor and make it difficult to execute certain moves.
-
Appropriate dance attire: Wear comfortable clothes that allow for freedom of movement, such as leggings, dance skirts, or loose-fitting pants. Avoid clothing that restricts your movement or makes you feel uncomfortable.
-
Water bottle: Dancing can be physically demanding, so staying hydrated is important. Bring a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated during breaks or throughout the class.
-
Towel: Latin dance styles can be energetic and may cause you to sweat. Bringing a small towel can help you stay fresh during the class and wipe off any excess sweat.
-
Personal items: Consider bringing a small bag or purse to keep your personal items like keys, phone, and wallet safe and in one place. You can store it in the pigeon holes at the studio.
-
Positive attitude: Dancing is a social activity, and a positive attitude can go a long way in enjoying the experience and learning from the class. Bring an open mind, willingness to learn, and a positive attitude to make the most out of your dance class.
